Oats Laddoo

Oats are one of the most popular grains. It is very versatile as one can make many different dishes using oats. Oats are gluten free and high in soluble fiber. Oats are a rich source of Beta Glucan, which has a heart protective effect by lowering the cholesterol.
Nutritional benefits
Oats ladoo not only provides the beneficial beta glucan but it is also rich in proteins and good fat due to the inclusion of nuts like almonds, cashew. Seeds like sesame and jaggery add to the calcium and iron content of the ladoo.
Ingredients:
Rolled oats – 1 cup
Desiccated coconut – ¼ cup
Jaggery – 1 cup
Ghee – 2 tbsp
Sesame seeds – 2 tbsp
Mixed nuts – 2 tbsp
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Method:
- Roast the oats till crisp, do not brown it. Allow it to cool. Coarsely grind them.
- Dry roast the chopped mixed nuts and sesame seeds till light brown.
- In a pan, melt jaggery by adding a little water. Add ghee and once it starts bubbling, switch off the gas, add desiccated coconut, nuts, sesame seeds, cardamom and oats powder. Mix well.
- When the mixture is warm, grease your hands with little ghee and make small balls of the mixture. Roll in the desiccated coconut and serve.

Over to you: With a lot of nutrition packed in a small ladoo, it makes for a healthy evening snack or a midmorning snack. A good lunch box dessert for kids and adults alike.
You can make your own variation and add choco chips or chocolate powder to make oats chocolate ladoos for kids. Dried berries can be added in place of nuts to make colorful oats ladoo.
