Think your pain away! Strategies for Pain Management

Pain is complex and distressing. Pain can be a reason for an injury, medical issues or it can also be due to stiffness in any part of the body. Pain can affect a person’s lifestyle and can even hamper day-to-day tasks. Factors like poor diet, smoking and a bad lifestyle can worsen the pain and can even hamper the recovery process. Along with medications, there are various ways to manage the pain. We bring you certain strategies for pain management that will definitely reduce or reverse the pain in the body.

  • Keep the Area warm: Keeping the affected area warm helps in reducing the pain. You can take hot showers, and apply a hot compress on the area to keep it warm and to decrease pain and stiffness. We suggest you keep the area completely covered.
  • Consume a healthy diet: Prevent yourself from gorging upon excessive foods like desserts, processed meat, gravy-rich curries and so forth because this may aggravate the pain. Unhealthy food choices may also maximise the risk of cardiovascular and osteoporosis diseases. One of the most useful nutrients that can keep your winter-related ailments at bay is Vitamin D. You can incorporate this by eating eggs, milk, mushrooms and other dairy products, omega-3 can also be added as it reduces the inflammation in joints such as fish, walnuts, avocado, and flax seeds in your diet. Sunlight is said to be one of the great sources of vitamin D. You can also take calcium supplements under medical supervision.
  • Drink plenty of fluids: Consuming ample amounts of fluid helps in the excretion of toxicity from the body, prevents muscle cramps and also lubricates your joints. Have at least 2.5-3 litres of water on a daily basis. You can also add some glasses of warm water to your lifestyle. Apart from this, drink green tea, herbal teas, and turmeric milk as they have polyphenol-rich anti-inflammatory properties present in them. Soup can also be a great option for that matter.
  • Stay active and exercise: A sedentary lifestyle not only keeps you fit and fine but also saves you from pain. It keeps your body active and your muscles moving and thereby reduces stiffness and pain from the body. Indoor physical exercises such as cardio, stretching and weight training are a great option. Level up your physical activities by taking the staircase instead of the escalator, avoid being immobile inside the house instead and be more confined to moving around, this will minimise the chances of pain.
  • Do consume some natural spices: Add in natural herbs and spices such as cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, oregano, and garlic in your diet. These spices contain anti-inflammatory properties that ease out the pain and keep your body warm.
