Cold & flu is caused by a virus and is generally known as an infectious disease that affects the respiratory system. You can get the signs and symptoms in less than two days after the exposure to the virus. Cold and flu usually occur problems like coughing, sore throat, running nose, sneezing, headache, and fever. The throat, sinuses, and larynx may also be affected by the common cold or flu. Flu can easily be spread by the coughs and sneezes of an infected person and is often referred to as highly contagious. 

Various home remedies can do wonders to the cold or flu. Keep reading to see what you can do at home to treat this sickness! 

Ginger is the way: Ginger has been known for its various health benefits from centuries. Various researches have proved that just 1 slice of ginger can also beat the feelings of nausea. To soothe a cough & flu, add a few slices of raw ginger in boiling water, let it boil for another 2 minutes, strain with the help of a strainer and sip it hot. For effective results, try this at least 2-3 times a day. Ginger can also help in treating sore throat.

 The honey and cinnamon syrup is the perfect rescuer: Mixture of lemon, cinnamon and honey is another great way to combat common cold & flu. All you have to do is add a pinch of cinnamon in a half spoon of honey. Take this syrup twice a day and you will notice effective results in your cold & cough.

 Gargle is everything you need: Gargling with warm salt water is an age-old therapy that brings effective results to the cough and cold. It will also give effective results to the sore throat. Take warm water and dissolve a teaspoon of salt in it and try! Gargle at least 4 times a day.

 The steam work: Take some steam and you can easily get rid of cold. It will also loosen up the stuffy nose. Take a pot full of boiling water and breathe slowly over it. 

 Drink up the turmeric milk: Turmeric helps in treating many health problems. Drink warm turmeric milk before sleeping. It will help in faster recovery from cold and cough. 

When to see doctor?

As we all generally treat cold and flu as basic and does not focus much attention in curing it but there are various cases and chances in which you might need to utmost medical attention. 

In adults, marks of a disaster include:

  1. Severe chest pain
  2. Severe headache
  3. Shortness of breath
  4. Dizziness
  5. Confusion
  6. Vomiting

In children, signs of an emergency are:

  1. Difficulty in breathing 
  2. Skin colour turn to bluish
  3. Not drinking enough fluids
  4. Lethargy 
  5. Extreme irritability 
  6. Distress
  7. Fever with a rash

 So, add these effective home remedies to your lifestyle and say a permanent goodbye to general problems like cold cough and flu.
