6 Foods That Help In Coping With IBS

You go to a social gathering and order something to eat but then start pondering, “Is red wine good for me? Should I eat more nachos?”, but really can you blame yourself after all IBS is something which can create confusion. You’ve been struggling with IBS for months now and probably wondering what it is that will help relieve my symptoms. Don’t worry, there are some foods which you should be eating in IBS.

Foods that can help you:
There are some foods which may help you sleep just fine with IBS, and these are given below:

  • Lactose free milk: – If your body has a hard time digesting lactose then get yourself a nice lactose free milk or alternatives like rice or almond milk. Normally, lactose is broken down into simple sugar which is then absorbed by small intestine but unfortunately in lactose intolerance, our body is unable to break down lactose as our body synthesizes no to very little lactase( enzyme responsible for lactose digestion) as a result lactose gets fermented by gut flora causing gas, bloating, and diarrhea.
  • Fruits: – Yes you read that right! It is okay to eat fruits in IBS but only fruits like oranges, blueberries, strawberries, and grapes as these fruits have low fructose levels which are easily welcomed by our intestines.
  • Eggs: – You can guess why we have added eggs in this list, well there’s more to protein and nutrients. Eggs are very low in fermentable carbohydrates. This means they are less likely to produce gas. Just make sure you are not allergic to egg whites.
  • Meat: – Don’t get excited, you are not allowed to eat butter chicken. Only meats which are lean like white meat chicken, white meat turkey, pork, lean cuts of beef, etc., are acceptable as they are low in fermentation rate.
  • Rice or quinoa: – Now this one is tricky but not rocket science. All you have to do is identify your symptoms. If you have constipation more often then you should be aiming for more fiber (soluble) like quinoa whereas if you experience diarrhea, then you should go after foods which are less in fiber (insoluble) like rice. Now, fiber is crucially important for our body and many of us don’t even meet half the needs. All in all, soluble fiber is good for IBS.
  • Vegetables: – This one shouldn’t take much time as there are few vegetables which you should eat as they create less gas than other vegetables. Examples include; carrots, eggplant, green beans, pumpkins, and zucchini.
