Cauliflower Toast

Cauliflower Toast is a nutritious, gluten-free alternative to traditional bread. Made with steamed cauliflower and seasoned with aromatic garlic and onion powders, this crispy, savory toast offers a versatile base for a variety of toppings, from fresh vegetables to cheeses or spreads.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams cauliflower florets
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (for greasing)

Procedure:

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Steam or microwave the cauliflower florets until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Allow to cool slightly.
  • Place the steamed cauliflower in a food processor and pulse until it resembles fine rice or crumbles. Alternatively, you can use a cheese grater to grate the cauliflower.
  • Transfer the processed cauliflower to a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth. Squeeze out as much moisture as possible to avoid soggy toast.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cauliflower, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  • Divide the cauliflower mixture into two portions and shape each portion into a rectangular “toast” shape on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten the mixture to about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Brush the tops of the cauliflower toasts with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the toasts are firm.
  • Let the cauliflower toasts cool slightly before serving. You can top them with your favorite toppings, such as chutney, feta cheese, or avocado.
