“Milagu Kuzhambu” (Pepper Soup)

 

It is a flavorful and nutritious dish commonly consumed in South India. 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 10-12 black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Let them splutter.
  3. Add black peppercorns and sauté for a minute until they release their aroma.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and add turmeric powder. Stir well.
  5. Add tamarind paste and water. Mix everything together.
  6. Season with salt and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavours to meld.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice or idli for a complete meal.
