Karela Dumplings

Thinking of healthy food not always correlates to some boring recipe. Proof is this recipe itself, a healthy, nutritious yet exciting to add on in your menu for weekends. These karela dumplings will not just nourish you body with its nutritional values but will also give a treat to you evening cravings.

Nutritional Benefits

Bitter gourd the main ingredient to this recipe has antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiviral, anti-allergenic, antiparasitic, and some expectorant properties that also, have number of health benefits which can be derived by including it (Karela Dumplings) in your diet. Its ability to manage and control diabetes, improve respiratory health, reduce the effects of hemorrhoids, and boost skin health is commendable. Apart from all, including karela in your diet can strengthen your immune system too.

Ingredients

  • Grated Bitter gourd (karela) – 20g

  • Chopped Onion- 15g

  • Chopped garlic- 1 Tspn

  • Chopped green chillies- 1Tspn

  • Chopped coriander- 10g

  • Turmeric powder- ½ Tspn

  • Low fat curd- 10g

  • Wheat Flour- 5g

  • Millet flour- 5g

  • Besan- 5g

  • Cumin seeds- 1 Tspn

  • Oil- 1 Tspn

  • Asafoetida- ¼ Tspn

  • Salt to taste

Yield: 3 dumplings

Calories: 26 kcal per dumpling

Method

  • Combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, mix well and knead into a soft dough using a little water.

  • Roll the dough into a cylindrical shape and make small bowl out of it.

  • Steam the rolls in a steamer for 15 minutes or till the knife comes out clean.

  • Cool the dumplings slightly.

  • For the tempering, heat oil in a wide non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds.

  • When the seeds crackle, add asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.

  • Add the small bowls into it, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.

  • Serve hot with mint chutney.

      Well it is a very easy recipe… All you have to do is:
      Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
      Knead the mixture with the help of little water.
      Give cylindrical shape to this kneaded dough and steam the rolls in a steamer for 15 minutes.
      Now allow it to cool.
      For the tempering, heat oil in a wide non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds.
      When the seeds crackle, add asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
      Add these rolls into it, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
      Now serve it with mint chutney.
