Oats Dhokla

Oats Dhokla is a nutritious and flavorful twist on the traditional Indian snack, made with ground oats, semolina, and yogurt. This steamed delicacy is spiced with turmeric, ginger, and green chili, and topped with a savory tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and sesame seeds. It’s a light and wholesome option, perfect for breakfast or as a healthy snack.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 60 grams oats (ground into flour)
  • 30 grams semolina
  • 30 grams yogurt
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 100 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Procedure:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground oats flour, semolina, yogurt, turmeric powder, ginger paste, chopped green chili, salt, and lemon juice.
  • Gradually add water and mix to form a smooth batter with a medium consistency. Allow the batter to rest for 10-15 minutes.:
  • Grease a dhokla plate or any shallow plate with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Pour the batter into the greased plate, spreading it evenly.
  • Steam the batter in a steamer for about 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the dhokla from the steamer and let it cool slightly before cutting it into pieces.
  • Heat a small pan and add mustard seeds. When they start spluttering, add curry leaves and sesame seeds.
  • Pour this tempering over the steamed dhokla.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with green chutney or yogurt.
