Chura Mattar

Chura Mattar is a flavorful and comforting dish featuring soft poha (flattened rice) cooked with green peas, aromatic spices, and fresh coriander. It’s a quick and satisfying meal, ideal for breakfast or a light lunch or snack, offering a delightful combination of textures and tastes.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 60 grams poha
  • 50 grams green peas
  • 150 grams finely chopped onions
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Lemon wedge for serving

Procedure:

  • Rinse the poha in a strainer under running water for a few seconds until they are soft but not mushy. Set aside to drain completely.
  • Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle. Then, add the finely chopped onions and green chili. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add turmeric powder, garam masala, and red chili powder. Mix well and sauté for a few seconds until the spices are fragrant.
  • Add the green peas to the pan. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the peas are tender. If using frozen peas, this will take less time.
  • Once the peas are cooked, add the rinsed and drained poha to the pan. Mix gently to combine everything without breaking the poha.
  • Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the poha is heated through and all the flavors are well combined. Adjust salt to taste.
  • Turn off the heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with a lemon wedge on the side.

Nutritional Benefits:
