Summer Diet – Ditch the Fads for Real Foods

Summers are here, and so is intense blaze and scorching sun. AC’s have overpowered heaters and a hot cup of tea in the evening has been traded with chilled drinksand juices. With every changing aspect, our diet is altering too. Refreshing seasonal fruits, vegetables, and drinks are arriving in stores and markets. Our food habits and preferences are going to witness several modifications.

We tend to eat light food and prefer low-calorie foods. Summers are a good time to catch up on healthy foods and drinks. You also need to pay attention to get the right nutrients. Cutting down the quantity and number of meals can increase the chances of not providing enough nutrients to the body. Making sure that your body gets a well-balanced and nourishing diet is necessary.

Here is a list of suggestions and food items that can assist you in achieving a nutritious diet and a healthy body:

  • Drink a lot of water: The heat and humidity in summers take up all your energy. You feel more tired and exhausted. This happens because you are suffering from dehydration. Cooling down the body with water is crucial in summers. Make sure you always carry your own water bottle and refill it 6-7 times a day.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables: Summer brings a variety of fruits and vegetables with it. This is the season of watermelons, mangoes, and lychees. Get at least two servings of fruits and vegetables in a day. Blend all the fruits and enjoy milkshakes and smoothies during the humid weather. Add more cucumber and tomatoes to your meals. Make innovative vegetable salads and grilled vegetables that are nutritious and fulfilling.
  • Say no to sugar: Refrain from consuming sugary foods and carbonated drinks that contain high levels of sugar. Excess sugar accumulates in the body and is stored as fat. It also alters blood pressure and cholesterol level which are potential threats to the body.
  • Yogurt for snacks: We all crave snacks once in a while. It is healthy and important. Yogurt is rich in protein and calcium. It is a nutritious low-calorie food with several benefits. You can add chia seeds or sunflower seeds in a cup of yogurt and eat it for breakfast or as a snack. Fruits and yogurt also go well together.
  • Eat fresh and light: Food can easily spoil during the summer season. This happens because the temperature is suitable for the bacteria to grow and survive. Pay attention to cooked and raw foods. Store food in the refrigerator and not in the open. Don’t take any risk with cooked food as it may increase the chances of you falling sick.

Footnote

Summer is an ideal time to eat light and refreshing food. A shift from a hot cup of soup to an extra glass of juice is completely normal. Don’t overload your body with extra food and beverages.
