Winter Diet Tips – 5 Mistakes to avoid during Winter

Winter is just around the corner and we can’t wait to indulge in a variety of delicious cuisines and hot beverages. But with that, it is important to avoid common nutrition mistakes we all can make during this season. This is because many illnesses related to the winter season such as cold, cough, flu, and allergies peak during the time along with some behavioural changes due to the cold temperature which may trigger certain bad habits and lead us to an unhealthy lifestyle in general.

Read below to know 5 winter mistakes that you should avoid while following your diet to stay fit and healthy:

  • Excessive dehydration: In winters, we often feel less thirsty as compared to summers as physical activities are a bare minimum. Also, our body loses water mainly through sweat, urination, and digestion. This can eventually lead to dehydration and further cause complications like constipation or indigestion. So, make sure you are keeping yourself well hydrated this winter season.
  • Binge-eating:It is quite common to indulge in over-eating during winter months because our body burns more calories to fight cold and eventually leads us to tempt more calorie-dense foods. To keep you healthy, avoid this and rather switch to fresh fruits and vegetables which will keep you fuller for longer hours.
  • Too much caffeine intake: Many people start consuming more caffeine either from tea/coffee during the winters as it helps soothe the body and keeps us warm & cosy. However, this can have adverse effects on our bodies. So, limit your caffeine consumption to only 2-3 cups a day and switch to herbal teas to keep your body warm.
  • Increased carbs intake: During winters, our desire for carbohydrates in our diet increases drastically and this is because our serotonin levels drop in winter. This is a hormone responsible for handling our moods. As a result, our body craves more carbs which can prove unhealthy in the long run. So, keep a close check on your intake to prevent any health ailments.
  • Low levels of vitamin C intake: Vitamin C plays a very crucial role in boosting the immune system, which is likely to be weakened in winters. It is also essential for maintaining healthy and glowing skin. Vitamin C is well-known for being a powerful antioxidant, which is very important in protecting us from health issues. So, start consuming vitamin C-rich foods like guava, kiwi, broccoli, lemon, papaya, strawberry, and orange to stay healthy in this season!

Over to you:

We all want to snuggle in bed all day by staying cosy and warm. But don’t forget to pay special attention to your health too. Binge-eating, poor hydration, and too much caffeine are some of the mistakes that you should definitely avoid while maintaining your good health.
