Quinoa & Moong Dal Cheela

Quinoa & Moong Dal Cheela is a nutritious and flavorful Indian pancake, made by blending protein-rich moong dal and quinoa into a smooth batter, mixed with aromatic spices, herbs, and finely chopped vegetables. This dish is a perfect combination of taste and health, offering a crispy texture with a soft inside. It’s a versatile option that can be enjoyed as a wholesome breakfast, a light meal, or even a nutritious snack.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 60 grams quinoa
  • 60 grams moong dal
  • 20 grams finely chopped onion
  • 10 grams finely chopped green chili
  • 10 grams grated ginger
  • 15 grams chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • 2 teaspoons oil

Procedure:

  • Rinse the quinoa and moong dal separately under running water and soak them in water for about 2-3 hours.
  • Drain the soaked quinoa and moong dal, and blend them together in a mixer or blender until you get a smooth batter. Add a little water as needed to achieve a pourable consistency.
  • Transfer the batter to a mixing bowl. Add chopped onion, green chili, ginger, coriander leaves, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • Heat a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat and lightly grease it with oil.
  • Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the pan and spread it out evenly to form a thin chilla. Cook until the edges start to lift, and the bottom side turns golden brown.
  • Flip the chilla carefully and cook the other side until it turns golden brown as well.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  • Serve the Quinoa & Moong Dal Chilla hot with your favorite chutney or yogurt on the side.
