The Delta variant which is also known as the hyper-transmissible strain of the novel coronavirus is believed to be more vulnerable for the younger population. As per the latest research, various researchers have confirmed that this latest variant of coronavirus is quite severe and the younger population should keep themselves safe as they are highly prone to this variant.
Marking this as a ‘wake-up call’, researchers said that young people should now “dispel the myth that this is something that only impacts on the elderly”. Further, they said that this stain is not something that should be taken lightly and explained that “the Delta strain is not a mild disease.” In many cases, it can be mild but in a lot of cases, it can lead to hospitalisation and death.
What is the Delta variant?
As per centres for disease control and prevention, “the delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2, can spread more easily. The strain has mutations on the spike protein that make it easier for it to infect human cells.” That means this virus can easily pass from one person to another. In the US, it is now the most dominant strain. Researchers have said that the Delta variant is about 50% more contagious than the Alpha variant. An alpha variant which is known as B.1.1.7 was 50% more contagious than the original virus.
What are the symptoms of the Delta variant?
The symptoms of the delta variant are quite similar to the original coronavirus, including cough, headache, fever, and sore throat. The less common symptoms are cough and loss of smell while headache, sore throat, runny nose, and fever are seen commonly. People who did not take the vaccination and are not following the safety protocols are also at higher risk of getting this virus. The Delta variant of Covid-19, first identified in India and the government is taking proper measures to reduce its transmission.
