After the auspicious festival of Diwali in India, we noticed a surge in the pollution levels especially in places like Delhi, the concentrations of Particulate Matter went up to 2.5 and stood at 999 per cubic meter. A lot of people complained about the difficulty in breathing problems, along with issues of cough, cold, congestion, allergies, and headaches. Other issues were itching and burning in the eyes, all these increased problems like allergies, burning sensation are all because of the smog.
This constant exposure to smog can lead to sore or watery eyes, redness in the eyes, or blurry vision. Therefore, here are some tips and remedies that can help reduce the itchiness or redness of the eyes, some tips for relief are-

  1. Reducing screen time
Air pollution is not the only reason for problems with the eyes, we are constantly glued to the screen for work and other various purposes sometimes for 8 to 10 hours, besides this being constantly glued to our smartphones can also lead to increased problems with the eyes, give your eyes a rest, so to reduce redness and burning sensation in the eyes.
  2. Sprinkling tap water on the eyes
If your eyes get red or swollen after staying outdoors for too long, make sure to splash some water on the eyes, you can do this several times to reduce any allergies due to the smog, along with this wash your hands often and don’t touch your face or eyes.
  3. Staying hydrated
Having an optimum water intake is necessary for the body to function or ward off any reactions to the air pollution surrounding us. The body responds to pollution better when hydration is better. Drinking enough water helps in washing away toxins and supports tear formation in the body, helping in the betterment of dry eyes. Decent water intake helps in the removal of irritants beneath the eyelids as well.
  4. Avoiding irritants like make-up
At times like this with increased levels of pollutants in the air, it is better to avoid any make-up, especially eye make-up like kajal, eyeliner, eye shadow, or mascara. A simple solution to avoid irritation can be using the basic glasses and avoiding contact lenses for a while too, and washing your eyes and face after traveling or coming back home, and using eye drops to reduce any allergens or irritants that might have entered the body.
  5. Diet
