WHO Tweeted About Tips To Stay Healthy This Ramadan

Ramadan is the holy month of the Islamic people, where millions of Muslims around the world fast as part of the spiritual and traditional practice of Islam. Fast is observed from dawn to sunset by all adult Muslims who are healthy and the ones who are ill, traveling, or have any disease can skip the fast. The fasting period is typical of 12-18 hours, depending upon the sun timings of the particular country, and is started by suhur, a meal that gives optimal energy to begin with fasting. And then at sunset, a feast called iftar is enjoyed to break the fast.

This month is not just to restrain from food and drink, but for devoting oneself to the prayers. The strict fasting obliges them from consuming any substance abuse like tobacco, establishing sexual relations, or using abusive words. They completely devote themselves to the Quran by practicing self-awareness, and self-control. This fast is more about being kind towards oneself and society, respecting and appreciating what is been given to you by the almighty, and establishing selfless behaviour. The rewards are also much greater during the month of Ramadan.

Tips To Stay Healthy This Ramadan:

  • Maintain a healthy diet and drink plenty of water- this will give you enough energy and keep you hydrated for the fasting period. Eat more whole and slow-digesting foods, and make sure you drink at least 2 liters of water.
  • Avoid smoking, junk foods, and foods high in sugar content- smoking is considered to be a sinful practice during the fasting period as the articles that reach your stomach could break your fast, and again, smoking is not a healthy practice too. Junk food would just bring extra calories and not add to your nutritional requirements, it is better to avoid them as much as possible. Also, you are not consuming sugar during the fasting period so you must avoid foods high in sugar content at iftar as they spike the blood sugar levels.
  • Follow food safety measures- this will simply prevent you and your family from getting sick. Consume freshly cooked meals and wash your hands before you begin eating.
  • Stay active and sleep well- you will need the extra energy to sustain the fasting period, so staying active will promote blood circulation and a good quality sleep will help you restore and recover.

Over To You:

Ramadan is a sacred month and it will bring you close to your prayers and make you an even better human being. Following these tips will secure your health and make fasting more fruitful and enjoyable.
