Fact Check- Is Patanjali’s Coronil Kit WHO Approved or Certified?

Last year in June, Patanjali launched coronil tablets that claim to cure COVID-19 in seven days but didn’t receive any approval from WHO. On February 19th, Patanjali’s Divya coronil has received certification from the Ministry of AYUSH and is fairly authorised as a drug that can be utilized in curing the Covid-19 and can also work as an immune-booster. “Coronil has received the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (CoPP) from the Ayush section of Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation as per the WHO certification scheme,” Patanjali said in a statement.

While announcing the news at a press meet, yoga guru and Patanjali group founder Ramdev also released a booklet with nine peer-reviewed papers confirming the effectiveness of the Coronil kit. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan was also there at the press meet.

Last year, when this kit was launched, the AYUSH ministry banned Patanjali from selling the coronil kit and asked for the trial information. The government of Rajasthan also sent a notice to the NIMS hospital in Jaipur where the coronil kit was being tested on the coronavirus patients, declaring that this kit cannot be used as a medicine until it gets a green go from the ministry of AYUSH.

Ramdev said, “We are using modern medicinal and scientific protocols and evidence-based research to prove the validity of Ayurvedic practices.” Health Minister Harsh Vardhan also said, “During British colonial times, Ayurveda should have been recognised, its knowledge publicised. Ayurveda has been accepted and established in many countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Cuba, Bangladesh, China and Sri Lanka. The 30,000-crore industry for Ayurvedic products which grew at 15-20% per year is growing at 50-90% after Covid.”

There was a lot of debate about the coronil kit when it’s firstly introduced in the market. Everybody was putting a question on how effective it is and if it’s worth giving a shot. But today, coronil has finally got the approval of the WHO and it is eligible for sale in more than 150 countries.

Footnote
Coronil is gaining huge popularity as it is the first evidence-based medicine to cure corona and has finally got the license to sale in more than 150 countries. Having said that, Patanjali put forth the prominence of Ayurveda and put back our belief in the age-old Ayurvedic practices.
