6 Tips to Ensure Safe and Healthy Motherhood

Kids are our priority, aren’t they.? Their growth, nutrition, physical and mental health is all we care about. But we often forget that we are the biggest of their lives and it’s very important we are healthy too so we are able to take care of them.

Being a mother or motherhood is a beautiful journey that fills us with a sense of fulfilment as they watch their children grow and take care of every need. As a mother, nothing matters to us more than the welfare of children. But, in the process, we tend to overlook our own wellbeing and forget the adage ‘Self-care is not selfish.

Here are some tips for mothers on how to take care of themselves for a safe and a healthy Motherhood:

  • 1. Maintain a Healthy and Balanced Diet – Eat healthily and on time to keep up your energy levels. Eat the right amount of carbohydrates as this will help to keep you going throughout the day. Scratch saturated fats such as butter, ready-to-eat-meals, and cheese, instead, choose unsaturated fats such as olive oil and avocados. Also, eat foods which are rich in protein. Have plenty of fruits and vegetables, this will boost your immune system, will make you feel better and help in preventing postnatal constipation.
  • 2. Stay Hydrated – Staying hydrated should be a priority. Always keep a bottle of water with you and keep taking sips every now and then. One can also consider having fresh juices and coconut water etc, to help intake more water.
  • 3. Take Sleep seriously – Good sleep gives you time to recuperate and keep your system working in a proper shape. Sleep deprivation will not only lead to exhaustion, but it can also interfere with your memory, your mood, your concentration, and your ability to cope with your new responsibilities.
  • 4. Personal Hygiene – Hygiene is an essential area to be focused on. Personal hygiene focuses on grooming your body externally and maintaining cleanliness through various daily activities and hygienic decisions. It further helps you to stay fit and healthy and has various social benefits as well such as looking and smelling pleasant, gaining confidence and having better self-esteem.
  • 5. Take VitaminsVitamins such a folic acid and calcium are helpful during the phase of motherhood. One can get your daily amount through natural consumption of foods. However, it is hard to keep track of the number of vitamins one is consuming through food, so it is better to take a set amount of multivitamins, which will meet your daily intake.
  • 6. Make time for yourself – Giving time to yourself is vital for your emotional well-being. Take an hour or so to read a good book, hit the gym or engage in any physical activity, watch a movie in the middle of the day, or get your nails done. Whatever you choose to do, make yourself a priority.
