Winter Diet- Ditch the Fads for Real Foods

During the winter months when the temperature lowers, our body starts craving food that provides comfort. For people keen to manage their weight this may be a hard time as winter is a season that brings binging with it.

Binging on such high-calorie foods may disrupt your body goals hence it is necessary to plan your winter diet. Fad diets and quick-fix options can hamper your overall health and therefore we bring you the real foods that will satisfy your cravings but with weight control.

1- Ditch the additives and add spices that warm you up – Cloves, cinnamon, ginger and many other forms of spices such as turmeric should be added to your food for that warmth and flavour. These can be added to soups, curries and even teas. It may also be a part of your comfort food. These are also rich in antioxidants and minerals which will be beneficial for your diet.

2- Ditch the Dried Fruits add Fresh Citrus foods – During the winter season the production and growth of citrus fruits are not halted and hence their quantities are in an abundance. They can be used in breakfasts and as snacks. There are plenty of citrus salad recipes for winters available online which are perfect to use in your winter diet.

3- Ditch the Junkies and Add Yoghurt for snacks: We all crave snacks once in a while. It is healthy and important. Yoghurt is rich in protein and calcium. It is a nutritious low-calorie food with several benefits. You can add chia seeds or sunflower seeds to a cup of yoghurt and eat it for breakfast or as a snack. Fruits and yoghurt also go well together.

4- Seasonal Root Vegetables Over Anything – Carrots, radishes, potatoes, onions and garlic are very suitable foods for winter. They are digested slowly which allows the generation of more body heat. There are many kinds of salads and meals where these vegetables find their place.

5- Ditch the packaged drinks and drink a lot of water: Dehydration can take up all your energy and can make you feel more tired and exhausted. Cooling down the body with water is crucial in every season. Make sure you always carry your own water bottle wherever you go and refill it 6-7 times a day.

Winter is an ideal time to binge but a shift from junkies to real seasonal and fresh foods will satisfy your cravings without hampering your health.
