Walnut Whole-Wheat Flat Bread

Walnut Whole Wheat Flat Bread is a hearty and nutritious bread featuring the rich, earthy flavor of walnuts combined with whole wheat flour. This flatbread is perfect as a side dish or standalone snack, offering a satisfying crunch and subtle nuttiness.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 60 grams whole-wheat flour
  • 20 grams walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Water, as needed (approximately 40-50 ml)

Procedure:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the whole-wheat flour, chopped walnuts, salt, and optional cumin seeds and black pepper.
  • Add the olive oil or ghee to the flour mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add water, a little at a time, and knead into a soft, pliable dough. You may need 40-50 ml of water, but add it gradually to get the right consistency.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes.
Divide the dough into 2 equal portions.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a thin, even circle or desired shape.
  • Heat a tava or non-stick pan over medium heat. Place one rolled-out flatbread on the hot pan and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until you see golden brown spots and the flatbread is cooked through.
  • You can apply a little oil or ghee on each side while cooking for a richer taste. Serve the walnut whole-wheat flatbreads warm with your choice of side dishes or as a standalone snack.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Whole wheat flour provides a good source of dietary fiber, essential for digestive health and maintaining steady blood sugar levels.

  • The addition of cumin seeds and black pepper adds a touch of spice while aiding digestion.
  • Olive oil offers healthy monounsaturated fats, enhancing the bread’s nutritional profile. This recipe is not only a great way to enjoy whole grains and nuts but also makes for a wholesome, flavorful addition to your meals.
