Walnut Whole Wheat Flat Bread is a hearty and nutritious bread featuring the rich, earthy flavor of walnuts combined with whole wheat flour. This flatbread is perfect as a side dish or standalone snack, offering a satisfying crunch and subtle nuttiness.
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 60 grams whole-wheat flour
- 20 grams walnuts, finely chopped
- 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Water, as needed (approximately 40-50 ml)
Procedure:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole-wheat flour, chopped walnuts, salt, and optional cumin seeds and black pepper.
- Add the olive oil or ghee to the flour mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add water, a little at a time, and knead into a soft, pliable dough. You may need 40-50 ml of water, but add it gradually to get the right consistency.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes.
Divide the dough into 2 equal portions. - On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a thin, even circle or desired shape.
- Heat a tava or non-stick pan over medium heat. Place one rolled-out flatbread on the hot pan and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until you see golden brown spots and the flatbread is cooked through.
- You can apply a little oil or ghee on each side while cooking for a richer taste. Serve the walnut whole-wheat flatbreads warm with your choice of side dishes or as a standalone snack.
