6 Colourful and Refreshing Beverages To Make Your Holi Bash Healthy

Holi, the festival of colours, also brings treats for lip-smacking food. In the midst of vibrant celebration comes the need for having some sweet & chilled drinks. How about giving a twist to this holi and making it healthier by serving unique never thought of refreshing beverages?

Apart from the well-known drink Thandai, make this holi memorable by adding these brews to your holi party menu:

1- Thandai – This is a traditional Holi special summer coolant drink we all know of.It is made up of milk, sugar, cardamom, saffron, rose petals, almonds, pepper, watermelon kernels, poppy seeds and basil leaves.

It tastes best when served chilled. It’s an instant thirst quencher and gives respite from the heat. It improves digestion and boosts immunity.

2- Ice tea Thandai – A sheer twist to your quintessential thandai. Just add tea infused water instead of milk along with the same ingredients as thandai. Tea being a natural antioxidant helps in improving overall health along with the nutritional benefits of almonds, basil, saffron and watermelon kernels.

3- Smoky Berry lush Kanji – If you love having spices in drinks, then this tangy & spicy flavor fusion drink is for you. Originally made with fermented carrots, you can now make this desi drink with frozen berries crushed with ajwain, black salt, and chaat masala. The best part is that it is served with smoke effects from burnt charcoal, cloves, cardamom & ghee; garnished with a sprig of mint and lemon wedge. Berries are rich in fibre and very nutritious. They are loaded with antioxidants and help fight inflammation.

4- Gajar Kanji – A probiotic drink made from carrot, beetroot and a dash of spices is a variation of traditional kanji drink. Very good appetizers drink for gut and digestion. It is kept to ferment for 2-3 days in ceramic jars to get the acquired sour taste and keep the body warm during cold days.

5- Icy jaljeera – This pick-me-up potion will surely give you respite from the sweltering sun. It has cooling properties and aids in better digestion. Prepared with chilled jaljeera, tamarind, jaggery, black salt, mint leaves and spices, it is an instant drink to make.

6- Avocado smoothie – One of the common appetizer drinks along with Indian meals ‘lassi’ can be more cherished by adding avocado in it. Garnish with mint leaves for some aroma. Avocados are a great source of antioxidants, vitamin E, rich in mono-saturated fats that help reduce cholesterol in our body.

Who says one can play Holi only with colours? Add myriad shades to these healthy inimitable beverages which will surely make your holi intriguing and impressive. ‘Bura na mano holi hai’!
