Life After Lockdown: Life-Long Habits We Have Learned While Staying at Home

It has been more than a month since we have been living under a nationwide lockdown. While most of us thought we are incapable of doing so, we have made it so far. All of us are currently surviving amidst a global pandemic that has taken thousands of lives and several other lives are at stake. While there is nothing good about a pandemic, we have to look at the better side to be able to do the impossible. We have to focus on the positive outcomes that have surfaced in the last few weeks.

The world is suffering and everyone is not privileged enough to cover their heads with a roof or afford a fulfilling meal two times a day. People from across the globe are coming together to help their fellow beings in every possible way. While we are isolated in our homes, so many of us have used this time to brush up on some or the other skill. Be it reading an old book, cooking your favourite gourmet meal, or mastering an instrument, we have been using our time indoors.

Things we have learned for the better

While we have learned the most valuable life lessons during this lockdown period, how about incorporating them in our lives beyond the lockdown too?
Here are some life-long habits we have learned while staying at home:

  • You are stronger than you think. Who thought you could survive during a pandemic? Even if you didn’t think you were capable of that. The world is going through a difficult time and so are you. Watching the news these days is depressing but staying patient, responsible, and calm is the only way of dealing with the situation.
  • You can adopt healthy eating habits. All of us have been eating home-cooked food and trying to stick to a nourishing diet. Avoiding junk food isn’t that hard maybe. Try sticking to these eating habits and eat healthy home-cooked food.
  • Cleaning more often will make you more hygienic. Most of us are good cleaners but we are just too lazy to do any work. During this lockdown, we have cleaned our rooms and houses and even made changes in the house. You could take this cleaning habit with you to maintain better hygiene.
  • Pay attention to little things around you. Do you hear the birds chirping when you are sipping on a cup of freshly made tea or do you see the trees blooming with bright colourful flowers? You might not have paid much attention to these tiny details when you were wrapped up with your busy schedules. Nature is healing in all ways. It’s time that we stop taking things for granted and be grateful for even the little things.
  • Make reading a habit from now on. We have sorted our bookshelves and picked our favourite novels that we have been dying to read. Reading is therapeutic and it can soothe your mind. Practice keeping a book on your bedside and read at least 10 pages before going to bed.

Footnote

We have achieved some of our personal goals and we are still working on the others. But these habits shouldn’t last till the lockdown. They should pass on even after that. Hold on these life-long lessons and habits that you have added to your lives.
