People often panic and buy things that they are not supposed to which could lead to redundant stocking. Make an inventory list of what is already present at home.
Try using that first. This way you can avoid the excessive load of purchasing or ordering food items and even curtail food waste.
Being Covid positive and isolated isn’t the best time to eat what you have always wished for. Use fresh fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products over non-perishables.
Ditch processed foods as they can deteriorate your health and be addictive as well.
You have been watching cooking videos till now, how about you make some? We often get carried away in our lives and don’t get time to cook our own food. Preparing home-cooked meals is one of the best ways to make your quarantine interesting. Make sure you don’t end up adding too much salt, sugar and fat as these can hamper your health.
Many cities have excellent food delivery services which could be very handy as they also provide “contact-less” options, where no human interaction is required, thus following covid norms and isolation measures.
Being at home all alone can get forlorn at times and you might end up eating too much, especially foods that are addictive (processed foods). Be mindful of what you are having so as to circumvent piling up on extra calories.
Prioritize foods with reduced or no added salt. 50-70% of our salt intake comes from the ready foods we eat, rather than what we add ourselves. Limit the amount of sugar to equal to or less than 5% of total energy and if you crave something sweet; fresh fruits should always be the priority. Limit fat intake to less than 30% of total energy consumption by choosing methods such as steaming, grilling, or sautéing instead of frying foods. Read nutrition labels to avoid saturated and Trans fats.
