Orange Kheer

Orange Kheer is a unique, creamy dessert with a citrusy twist, blending the traditional richness of rice kheer with the refreshing tang of fresh oranges. This refreshing dessert is perfect for warm days, offering a delightful contrast between creamy rice pudding and juicy orange pieces.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 500 ml milk
  • 2 tablespoons rice, soaked for 15 minutes
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons jaggery (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 80 grams fresh orange segments, deseeded and peeled
  • 5-6 chopped almonds and pistachios for garnish

Procedure:

  • In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the milk.
  • Simmer the mixture on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the rice is soft and the milk reduces and thickens (about 20-25 minutes).
  • Add jaggery, along with the cardamom powder, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the kheer is aromatic and well-blended.
  • Turn off the heat and let the kheer cool slightly. Gently fold in the orange segments, mixing lightly to avoid breaking them apart.
  • Garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios. Serve the kheer chilled for a refreshing dessert with a delightful citrus twist.
