5 Foods You Must Avoid During Monsoons

The rainy season brings along fresh air and invigorating vibes as it provides a sigh of relief from the scorching heat of the sun. Though the monsoon makes us feel happy, it also increases our cravings of fried and road-side foods which can further take a toll on our overall health and well-being.  Many of us rely on street food during this season which can expose us to various infections and food-borne illnesses like food poisoning. Various health experts said that a weakened digestive system is quite common in this season and consuming unhealthy foods can easily make you suffer from various stomach ailments.

Here are some foods that you should definitely avoid during this season in order to enjoy this season without any disease or health complications.

  • Fried foods: A platter of fried foods is something that we can never say no to! Isn’t it? But deep-fried foods can easily disturb your digestive system during this weather which can further create various health problems like gas, bloating, stomach-ache and many others. The high humidity in this weather slows down the process of digestion and consuming deep-fried food items can raise the risk of various gastronomical complications in the body.
  • Leafy veggies: It might be shocking for many as we all have been listening that green leafy veggies are extremely beneficial for the health. But in the monsoon, avoiding these veggies can add up to your health. There are high chances that green leafy veggies contain germs and bacteria in this season due to the dirt and dampness. Cut out the leafy greens like spinach, cabbage, lettuce and cauliflower from your list during monsoon and give a warm welcome to veggies like bitter gourd, ghiya, tori and tinda. Don’t forget to wash all your veggies properly before cooking and consuming.
  • Pre-cut fruits: Monsoon is the weather that increases the germs and microbes in the air. Therefore, consuming fruits and veggies that have been cut and left out for a long time is a big mistake in this season. Pre-cut foods have a high risk of contamination and consuming such food items can take you closer to various illnesses like food poisoning.
  • Mushrooms: Mushrooms generally produced in damp areas and consuming them can easily increase the risk of bacterial infections. It is quite important to avoid consuming mushrooms during this season to safeguard yourself from various infections.
  • Raw foods: While health professionals suggest that consuming raw foods is filled with great nutrients and consuming them is quite beneficial for the health, it is important to not consume raw foods during monsoon as it can contain bacteria, germs and other microbes and can increase the risk of various infections.
