There are a lot of exercises we can follow to stay fit and flexible. One such form is yoga, which comprises a list of light movements done to promote overall stability. The Ministry of Ayush tweets about yoga poses and the benefits of yoga marking the importance of the upcoming Yoga Utsav.

And different asanas are inspired by different animals, things, or structures. One such is Adho Mukha Svanasana, the animal-inspired yoga pose which is also called the downward-facing dog.

How Is Adho Mukha Svanasana Performed?

  • Kneel on the floor and keep the knees hip-width apart.
  • Bending the upper body forward, place your hands on the floor and align your palms with the shoulders.
  • Now exhale, curl your toes and lift the body away from the floor. Continue facing downwards and make sure your heels are not touching the floor.
  • Keep balancing your body on your palms and toes, and your knees and elbows should be slightly bent.
  • Straighten the tailbone, and both your knees and elbows.
  • When you feel a nice stretch in your hamstring, you can finally bring the heels down and hold the pose for a few breaths.
  • No, get back into the sitting position by slowly bending your knees and elbows.
