It’s Time to be Body Positive

Scars, flaws or stretch marks don’t describe you or your body. Not been able to squeeze yourself into those old-school jeans? Or not been able to buy that short dress because of thunder thighs?

Whatever the reason, it should not make you feel bad.

Is your body image in your mind right?

Body image has recently become a common term used nowadays. It is defined as the perception that a person carries about their physical self and the thoughts and feelings that result from that perception. How do you see your body is your perceptual image.

Heard about body positivity?

Deciding what feels good and healthy for you personally and not letting other people do that for you.

Body positivity is unlearning the idea of looking or having a certain type of body. It is an empathetic nature of recognizing and accepting all bodies that they are equally valuable.

You have your own set of choices and rights to decide what looks good on you or what is more comfortable for you. The idea of what others will like should only be limited as a myth and not necessarily have the ability to put yourself in apposition to buy or do certain things which can make you feel not comfortable in your own body.

You should free yourself from the prejudice of others whether it is due to shape or size of your body. Realize your weight is not your worth and your self-worth has nothing much to do with your actual body. 

Skinny or curvy- male or female– both should remain free from the fact of convincing or pleasing others to accept or appreciate their body type and body shaming can affect anyone negatively. 

Tips to feel more positive about your body:

  • Paste post-it notes about positive affirmations on your mirror.
  • Get less influenced by instagrammers and more by you.
  • Focus on all the things you like about yourself.
  • Don’t let yourself be defined by any limitation or bodily issue.  
  • Don’t let the numbers on the scale give you anxiety.
  • Your strength and self-worth are more than your body appearance.
  • Exercise for the sake of feeling better and not looking better.

It’s not easy to adore every inch of your body. Be around people who are supportive and uplifting. If your friends or family body-shame themselves or others, this is the perfect chance to educate them on being body-positive, and maybe not asking, “Does this make me look fat”, when they try on an outfit. Sometimes a supportive squad is all you need or why to wait for a squad, rather celebrate your own awesomness.
