Eat Like A Local- Utterly Delicious Delicacies of Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand ‘the land of god’ is known for its inexplicable beauty and withholds a whole lot of delicacies. The state is pleased with simplicity and offers flavoursome cuisines especially in the two distinct regions, Garhwal and Kumaon. Wheat is the staple food here with a few primary vegetables. The cuisine not only holds taste but also comes with some nutritional values.

Here we have mentioned a few lip-smacking dishes that are popular in the streets of Uttarakhand.

  • Kafuli
  • If you are a diet conscious freak this dish is just meant for you! The dish is mostly savoured during winters and is made with spinach, fenugreek leaves and lai. Kafuli is specially cooked in iron kadhai and is best complemented with kapaa ( hot steaming rice) . It is so nutritious that even doctors prescribe it to their patiences.

  • Baadi
  • Baadi is known for its tangy taste and lingering aroma and is one of the popular dishes among the locals of Uttarakhand. It contains some potential nutrients like vitamin A and vitamin B12. The dish is super easy to make and can be prepared in a short period. Baadi is prepared by adding buckwheat flour to the boiling water and is served with pure ghee to enhance its flavour.

  • Chainsoo
  • This dish is very popular in Garhwal region and is made up of urad dal, roasted lentils and is cooked in an iron kadhai. Chainsoo is rich in protein and is thoroughly loved for its earthy flavour.

  • Jhangora Ki Kheer
  • Jhangora ki kheer is a delightful dessert famous in Garhwal region. It has a rich texture with the goodness of milk and an exquisite taste to die for. If you ever visit Garhwal this dish is a must-have after your meal.

  • Dubuk
  • Dubuke or Dubuk is a local dish in the Kumaon region and is known for its prodigious taste. The dish is prepared with Gahat and Bhatt ( local pulses of Uttarakhand) and is savoured with kapaa especially during winter season ( hot steaming rice).
