The first crucial step is, beginning your fitness journey and sticking to a schedule. Beating off the couch and into the gym can be an intimidating procedure, especially when everyone seems to know a lot more than you do. But hey! Congratulations on successfully embarking your journey towards a healthier and better version of yourself.

While joining a gym can be sometimes scary because of the competition and does require encouragement, it is important to remember why you joined the gym in the first place. Here are a few workout tips by fitness experts for gym beginners on how they can ace their fitness journey.

What you should do before your workout
Layout all your workout essentials in your gym bag on the night before you plan to workout. This includes a water bottle, towels, gym clothes and other equipment that you require accordingly. Plan your workout schedule like what exercises you will be doing. If you are considering to workout at home, check the workout app that you are considering and see whether you have all the equipment that you would need and how each workout needs to be done.

During your workout
Always start your workout with light weights and gradually increase the weight as you get stronger. We know, some people get motivated whenever they hold weight but that can be dangerous and may increase the risk of sore muscles, injury and you may quit soon. So, do not start with an aggressive workout.

As mentioned earlier, there will be many people who know more than you. So, try not to compete with them during your workout as someone else’s particular exercise result may not be the same as yours. Remember, everybody is different and responds differently to all exercises. Go at your own pace, slow down when you feel dizzy or get out of breath. Give time to your body to adapt to the newly introduced exercise schedule.

Adjust the intensity of workouts according to your suitability. Do modified versions of exercises if they are too hard for you to do. If you are not able to do exercise with the right form, this means that the exercise is too challenging for you. Try removing those exercises or do them slowly and take a short duration before you start a new exercise.

After your workout
Two of the basic essentials of exercise are cool-down and warm-up. Ensure that you do some post-workout exercises or stretches. This will help you avoid the next-day soreness.

Drink at least one½ litre of water in the hours following your workout. It will keep you hydrated and revive your fluid balance.
