Cold days and long nights make it hard even for the most dedicated to getting out of their beds during winters. Lack of sunlight and fear of catching a cold may cause many to drop out of their workout routine. This requires effort from our side and with small changes that make staying active easier until the winter season comes to pass, here are some ways to motivate yourself to exercise
- Seeking out an exercise buddy – Working out alone may be sufficient to demotivate you and stop any exercise. Thus with the excitement or social pressure that comes from a partner that demands you to work out together, you may attend these sessions with some pressured motivation. Partners also provide support, camaraderie and make it more engaging during workouts. Even at home, through a video call, friends can enjoy exercise sessions together.
- Warming and bundling up – It is important to wear clothes that protect from cold weather. Before going out it is also recommended to do active stretches and then add layers of clothes on top of it. Getting some stretches will help your body reduce any chances of injuries and also cope with the cold better. You can make sure your clothes are extra warm by placing them near a heater and then enjoying the comfort the extra heat brings.
- Pairing exercise with entertainment – Activities that can be incorporated into a workout routine. This may include watching videos and multimedia content while you ride a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill, taking photographs as you trek on a long path or scenic locations, dance workouts or even playing simulated games on Wii and Kinect which include tennis, bowling, and many others. People interested in ice skating may explore beginner-friendly courses.
- Keeping records – Be it social media or journals, keeping records of your workout will help you stay motivated and the desire to update you on your progress will fuel your weight loss. Many individuals now like to post transformation or before-after clips of themselves where they mention their weight loss journeys. Such incentives help build self-confidence and to remain motivated.
- Workout in the sunlight – During winters the morning and nights are colder, hence the optimal time to work out is during the day while the sun is out. From strolling to walking your dog, all can be done during this time. It will help you get the necessary sunlight and warm your body for the coming night. Working individuals for their lunch break may head outdoors and enjoy a brisk walk while planning to eat at a convenient outdoor spot.
