Pregnancy, the most precious time of a woman’s life when a new life is being made inside her requires a woman to go through a lot in terms of health both mental and physical and also a lot of bodily changes undergo. Giving birth to a child is not as easy as this process which lasts 8-9 months requires a lot of patience and strength. 

There are some really surprising facts surrounding pregnancy which are as follows: 

  • Uterus gets bigger: Before pregnancy, the uterus is like an orange but during pregnancy, woman’s uterus grows exponentially. In the second trimester, the uterus is in the size of a papaya and it no longer fits in the pelvis and the third trimester, the uterus grows to the size of a watermelon. It is the last stage of the uterus growing bigger and ready for giving birth. 

  • Heart Palpitations: Pregnancy brings a lot of changes and one of them is an increased amount of blood in the body. The extra blood results in a heart’s rate about 25% faster than usual, which means it feels like heart is beating a bit faster. 

  • Morning sickness: Morning sickness also called nausea and vomiting does not only happen in the morning as the name says but can happen anytime during the day. Morning sickness typically starts by 4th week and ends by 16th week. 

  • Babies can taste certain foods in the womb: By the time a woman is 13 to 15 weeks pregnant, the baby’s taste buds have developed. What a mother eats is tasted by the baby too and the researches show that the foods you consume during pregnancy help and shape what the baby will enjoy eating.

  • Heartburn means that baby might have more hair: The women who go through heartburn might indeed have a baby with more hair because the hormones related to heartburn that is estrogen and progesterone, high levels can relax the sphincter at the bottom of the oesophagus, causing heartburn. The same hormones may also stimulate hair growth.

  • Protein intake is necessary: A women while pregnant needs proper nutrients to go through a healthy pregnancy. Protein is vital for ensuring the proper growth of the fetal tissue, including the brain. It also helps in the growth of the tissue of the breast. It is needed for the blood supply in the body during pregnancy.

  • Sense of smell may change: It is true that during pregnancy might experience a heightened sense of smell in the first trimester; the changes in the hormones during pregnancy can make a very little scent your way can feel like too much. It is because of the rise in the estrogen levels.
