Diwali is one of the major festivals of India where the triumph of good over evil and hope over despair is celebrated. This festival comes with an extravaganza of dishes and from sweets to snacks, everything is worthy of being a part of our festive diet. Healthy recipes to enjoy during your Diwali are –

  1. Kaju Katli – Known to be one of the most popular sweets in India. The ingredients for this sweet include cashew nuts, cardamom powder, sugar, saffron, and nuts. The preparation includes grinding of cashew nuts and then mixing sugar, saffron, cardamom powder and then to cook after which it is to be cooled off. For healthy recipes, sugar is replaced with natural sweets that may include dairy, dates, jaggery, or honey. As it is sweet it is important to keep in mind the calorie count of the entire meal and adjust accordingly. For individuals with prior conditions, it may be necessary to avoid using nuts or other constituents of the sweet.
  2. Dry Fruit stuffed gujiya – Sweets loaded with a variety of dried fruits and nuts of all kinds. These easily portioned and calorie-controlled foods are natural assorted sweets and a healthier alternative to traditional sweets. Different nuts with a varied nutritional profile can be used and a healthy snack can be prepared this way.
  3. Cereal chivda – A lot of snacks are launched during the festival duration ranging from a wide range of selections from Bikaneri bhujia to fried samosas. For a similar tasting but a healthier option cereals along with puffed rice can be used to make a lovely dish. Onions, coriander leaves, gluten-free cereals with seasonings come together to form this dish.
  4. Mathri – Famous snack that is very popular for its bite and its wide usage as a source of healthy snack along with different sauces and pastes. They are also very simple to bake and not time-consuming. Multigrain flour can be used as the main ingredient along with different seeds for added flavors.
  5. Chakris or Snack Sticks – A traditional food item that is very famous during the festival. Made of chickpeas salted and baked are very popular among all age groups for their crunchy bite.
  6. Dhokla – A very healthy appetizer that is often served with sweet and chilli sauce. Made very commonly in the western part of the country this healthy snack has many recipes for your specifically tailored diet.
  7. Samosa and fried bhajis – For healthy alternatives to fried foods it may be possible to use good quality oil and little frying time. For ingredients potatoes, multigrain flour, and other seasonings can be carefully selected and cooked. It may be possible to not accurately measure calories gained by oily foods hence it depends on the individual’s choices of whether he wants to cook such food items.
