American Singer Jessica Simpson Speaks up on Being Body-Shamed

American singer Jessica Simpson has opened herself about being body-shamed in the year 2009. Her photos in high-waisted denim during a performance at a music festival in 2009 flooded all over the internet and the whole world started abusing her of being overweight.

People commented “Jumbo Jessica,” and “beefy”, while making fun of her “jeans” and suggested she’d “let herself go.” After a long time of 11 years, Jessica finally speaks up about this and agreed that it was a difficult time and she felt ‘heartbroken’ by seeing the response of public on her photos. She told about her struggle and difficulties and how all this had affected her.

She said that the spread of her pictures and negative comments on it offended her a lot. Well, not the picture necessarily, but the caption and comments. She said that the abuse of body shaming demotivate her and destroyed her desire for performing. Her stage is her home all of the humiliation breaks her home. She was self-assured while performance but the exploitation has wrecked and crumbled everything for her.

However, Jessica is happy that the world is changing and now women are accepting herself as the way they are. Women are talking about different shapes, sizes, colours and are accepting how they look. Not only this, women are showing her flaws to the world and are flaunting it gorgeously.

She said that she was never behind her looks and body. Her obsession over her weight began after she appeared in a movie Dukes of Hazzard, 2005. She said, “Obviously, it is not easy and when someone insults you on how you look it hurts very badly. We all should see our flaws and accept them and slay it rather than just hiding it.”

“I beat myself up over it. I was taking diet pills and pinching my fat until it bruised,” she said.

Jessica further said that no matter what your body type is- it is all fine. Hating your body is not a solution for anything. Everybody is different in their own way! Be comfortable in your own body type.

Here is something you can do when people judge you on your appearance.

  • Tell them about self-love
  • Show them that you don’t feel bad
  • Always eat healthily
  • Swallow the negative comments with water
  • Be confident with your body type
  • Exercise positive self-talk
