Bollywood is coming up with two back-to-back movies on social issue- premature balding. Both the movies- ‘Bala’ and ‘Ujda Chaman’ are going to hit the box office next month and while bringing in a thought for us about the changing lifestyle and its effects on our health. Hair loss among males was common, especially during old age but Bollywood highlights the issue of premature hair loss problems a bit too seriously!
Trailers of both the movies give a hint about showing different phases of balding. It seems that both actors have tried to portray the roles of two men struggling with insecurities that male baldness brings with it. How easy Bollywood makes talking about sensitive and not-much-paid-attention issues like baldness. It is glad to know that actors aren’t doing typical Bollywood movies anymore.
Like ‘Bala’, ‘Ujda Chaman’ also deals with premature baldness in men and the societal connotations attached to it. The movie ‘Ujda Chaman’ revolves around this Hindi lecturer with premature balding.
After facing several rejections as a prospective groom because of his baldness, Chaman hits rock bottom when an astrologer gives him a deadline to find himself a wife or remain a celibate forever. This leads Chaman on a funny & emotional roller coaster ride of self-discovery and acceptance.
Reviewing the trailer, Ayushmann Khurrana is playing the role of Gaurav Rawat/ Bala, a guy from Lucknow who is facing premature balding. The film also takes on the topic of people’s obsession with fair skin. Human body cannot be perfect and every individual is unique in it, holds unique identity and has different personality traits.
Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia, is the most common type of hair loss in men. There could be many causes of hair loss which include diet, mineral deficiency, medications, stress, pollution and genetics. Male pattern baldness is associated with male sex hormones called androgens. The androgens have many functions, including regulating hair growth.
