About ‘The Game Changers’
The Netflix based documentary is presented by elite athletes- James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic and Chris Paul — a revolutionary new documentary is about meat, protein and strength. The athletes featured in the documentary cover the full range of sports, with Germany’s strongest man Patrik Babouman the poster boy.
What is the documentary all about?
As majority of audience confessed that Game Changers was truly an eye opening documentary and it enlightened about many facts that we never knew about the food we eat. The documentary geared up on the thoughts of ‘what to eat’ and how impactful it can be. It even dug its way deep into the ancient times and the lifestyles of Roman Gladiators looking at their bone structures which showed that they ate beans and not beef based diet while fighting as the national heroes of the time. The thought pattern of how our body hormones like cortisol, estrogen and testosterone work is also beautifully fathomed in the documentary.
The major part of the documentary focuses on how challenging the conventional wisdom about meat and protein is. It also clears the fact that it is all about marketing.
For years, many of us believed that healthy diet always include animal based food but ‘The Game Changers’ clearly seeks to change this notion of ours. Bursting the myth about the conventional benefits of animal based food, the documentary shows confession of many famous athletes about how they felt a change and how following a plant based diet improved their performance in a better way. They confessed that how their bodies became stronger, faster and healthier.
Other champion athletes include US cyclist Dottie Bausch, weightlifter Kendrick Farris and boxer Bryant Jennings. Ultramarathoner Scott Jurik and Australian 400m runner Morgan Mitchell also feature, as does Tennessee Titans NFL footballer Derrick Morgan and former NFL players Griff Whalen and Lou Smith.
Executive producer Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton features in the film, as well as fellow executive producers Chris Paul and Novak Djokovic. The Serbian tennis star has only recently spoken out about his plant-based diet, despite having eaten that way for several years.
Former UFC fighter James Wilks thinks the film may inspire more athletes to reveal themselves as following a plant-based diet. Wilks said that there were other secret vegans too who refused to speak on camera which includes NBA and NFL athletes.
Healthy alternatives (Protein rich plant foods)
Meat based foods are rich sources of protein and contain all the essential amino acids. They also contain iron and vitamin B-12. But at times meat products lack fibre and have more fat content. Some of the healthy options are:
- Kidney Beans
The myth that plant based diet means having boring and wimpy salads was exploded and other great variety of delicious hearty vegetarian meals are shown in the documentary. Though it is doubtful whether this documentary might bring a vegan revolution in sports nutrition but with sportsperson and athletes believing and following it will ensure veganism has a long way to go!
