Three hospitals have met the criteria for bringing in quality culture in providing healthcare services to the patients under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and were awarded with Gold Certificate.
UN Mehta Institute of cardiology and Research centre based in Ahmedabad, Cygnus Super Speciality Hospital in Haryana and Spine Institute of orthopaedic in Ahmedabad are the 3 hospitals.
Last month, the National Health Authority- the implementing body of AB-PMJAY framed comprehensive guidelines for hospitals to be empanelled with the healthcare scheme to apply for a quality certificate. The list of guidelines includes basic amenities like canteen, safe drinking water, hygiene, and suitable toilets for men and women, human resource requirements, infrastructure, appropriate space for the ambulance in hospital for patient movement, proper lighting facility inside and outside the hospital, fire fighting equipments, medical instruments and its maintenance.
An official reported that the guidelines for a self-assessment tool kit to get a quality certificate is user friendly, practical and has no language barrier. As of now, there are 18,097 hospitals on board with the AB-PMJAY, which have treated approximately 50 lakh patients.
Dr. JL Meena, General Manager, Hospital Networking and Quality assurance at AB-PMJAY said that the entire process has an objective of building a culture of quality healthcare for the patients. She added we have a very robust system, which closely monitors the compliance with the norms related to the quality certificate given by PMJAY.
So far they have received only 4 applications for the certificate. Application of one is still under scrutiny while the other 3 are being awarded.
World’s largest public health programme, Ayushaman Bharat has benefitted more than 8.9 lakh people since its launch last year.Cashless treatment worth over Rs. 6,100 crore for serious illnesseshave been availed by more than 39 lakh people since the launch of AB-PMJAY. This has resulted in savings of Rs 12,000 crore to the beneficiary families. 32 states and Union Territories have already implemented the scheme so far. 56,04,969 beneficiaries admitted and 18,509number of hospitals empanelled as of October 23 2019.
Completing a year on September 23, 2019, the nation saw a tectonic shift in healthcare when the Hon’ble Prime Minister launched this scheme- Ayushman Bharat. Sponsorsing almost all the complex surgeries 1,394 procedures, about 107.4 million poorest and most vulnerable families are today covered by health insurance and covering 23 specialties in both public and private hospitals. This is a growth indicator and an achievement for the country to be able to show appreciating results under the scheme.
