What is dead lifting?

Deadlifting is a weight training exercise in which a loaded barbell or bar is lifted off the ground to the level of the hips or above it. It is considered to be the safest weightlifting exercise.

Benefits of dead lifting

  • Works on multiple muscle groups
  • Builds strength and stability of the body
  • Improves your posture
  • Makes easier for you to perform basic regular tasks
  • Helps prevent injury
  • Easy to incorporate into your workout routine
  • Increases growth related hormone
  • Increases cardiovascular ability
  • Improves grip strength

Some of the faults which you should keep in mind to avoid any mishap or injury:

Warming up with few exercises like jumping jacks, side lunges, bodyweight squats, high knee pulls are a must before weightlifting.

Rounded lower back – remember to keep your chest up and shoulders back. Keep the weight close to you and do not let your hips rise faster than your shoulders. You may also benefit from some specific lower back strengthening exercises.Falling forwards during the lift – make sure your weight is on your heels and that you can wiggle your toes inside your shoes at all times. Try deadlifting in shoes with a lower heel or, if your gym allows it, in bare feet.

Falling backward at the top of the lift – don’t lean back excessively at the top of the movement. Simply stand up straight with the weight held over your feet. No need to arch your back at the top.

Assume the Deadlift and Squat as skills, similar to hitting a baseball, shooting a basketball or kicking a football. You need to know the correct posture and practice it over and over.

It is important to perfect your execution before you add weight. It is recommended to seek advice from a fitness trainer before hitting to a gym or practicing any kind of exercise or weightlifting.
