Instagram scrapes off posts promoting weight loss and cosmetic surgery products!

‘Instagram’ one of the famous social media giants has announced strict rules to be followed on posts which are related to diet products and cosmetic surgery.

They further added that diet-related posts like supplements detox teas and other diet-related or cosmetic related content that has certain price tags associated with it will not be open for users under 18.

Certain promotional posts that promote weight loss and cosmetic products will no longer be open for the people under 18 while some of the posts will be removed directly.

Posts that promise “miraculous claims” related to diet or weight loss products, and those linked with commercial offers such as discount codes would no longer be allowed under the new guidelines, Instagram said.

The reasons for such steps may be concerns raised due to the false acclamation and the negative impacts of these products. People found the claims promised due to these detox and cosmetic surgery products are not true and negatively affect the mental health and body image.

Emma Collins, Instagram’s public policy manager said, “We want Instagram to be a positive place for everyone who uses it and this policy is a part of our on-going work to reduce the pressure that people can sometimes feel as a result of social media.” She further adds “We’ve sought guidance from external experts, including Dr Ysabel Gerrard in the UK, to make sure any steps to restrict and remove this content will have a positive impact on our community of over 1 billion people around the world – whilst ensuring Instagram remains a platform for expression and discussion.”

This step is huge for Facebook and Instagram as they are trying to protect the physical and mental health of people who are too much involved in the list of online buyers.

Shaun Robinson, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation said that talking about health and overall well-being from the mouth of social media influencers are great but the young users are taking every single tip seriously and before they start deploying their health it is necessary to take some preventive measures.

Robinson also added with his statement that it is no wrong to say that social media is a great tool to share, motivate, inspire, encourage and communicate the information that adds a sense of positivity and well-being, but it can also bring destruction and distress if anything wrongly communicated to users.

There are various steps you can follow before buying to save yourself from the false acclamations made by-products!

Ask the seller to send the image of the product’s nutritional value, contents and ingredients used it. If the product looks fancy and the money attached to it is extremely less, then ask for a free sample before paying for it.

Check the reviews of the page and if possible connect with the buyers who have bought it. The process seems lengthy but can save you from the various problems and diseases as well. The best would still be to consult an expert before trying out such products.

This step taken is in favor of public well-being while taking care that the communication and positivity do not stop due to this. The social media needs to become a safer and more positive place for everyone and this is the motive behind this welcome step taken by Instagram.
