On October 17 th , Fitbit announced its partnership with the pharma brand Bristol Myers Squibb to improve timely diagnosis for of atrial fibrillation for people with risk of stroke.

Versions of Fitbit Introduced
- In 2016, Fitbit Charge 2 and Fitbit Flex 2 were launched.
- In 2018, Fitbit Alta HR and Fitbit Iconic were introduced.
About The Collaboration
To match a feature available on rival Apple Inc Watch, Fitbit Inc is developing a method to detect irregular heart rhythm in time through a partnership with Bristol-Myers Squibb-Pfizer Alliance.
In August, Fitbit tied up with the Singapore government to provide fitness trackers and services in a health program that the company said could reach up to one million users and the company has been trying to push deeper into the healthcare space.
The collaboration between Fitbit and the Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) Pfizer (PFE) Alliance will provide the users with a means to not only to aware of whether they have AFib, but to also provide them with facts on the condition. The motive behind this feature was that the users would then be able to take the data from their Fitbit to their doctor/ health care provider and get themselves treated.
Using their built-in ECG sensors, the Apple (AAPL) Watch Series 4 and Apple Watch Series 5 can both detect AFib. The company previously worked with the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) to receive certification for its watches.
However, Fitbit is still working with the FDA to receive clearance to use its devices as a means to detect AFib.
Reviewing the previous deal, the company’s devices will carry a software that will help become the user aware of atrial fibrillation (the most common type of irregular heartbeat that increases the risks of stroke) after approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Atrial fibrillation is prevalent in age group of 65 years and above and its prevalence is increasing worldwide, becoming major public health burden. Moreover, the related data is limited from our country as compared to Western countries.
