People across the world are so mad for this show that they not only see it once but also re-runs it a lot of time. Thanks for its characteristic to de-stress the mental health. It is no wrong to say that FRIENDS makes you giggle and laugh while lowering down your tensions, anxiety and stress.

This is what Psychologists have to say: Marc Hekster, a London-based clinical psychologist conducted a study to understand the facts that how this show is helpful in combat the stress. After going through his findings, he mentioned:

“Having worked for over a period of 20 years with those experiencing anxiety, I can conclude that among other factors, it is the repetitive and relational nature of programs such as Friends and Big Bang Theory that will be doing the trick.” He further added, “Characters’ problems in the show provide comfort as well as a sense of escapism to people.”

Not only FRIENDS, the doctor added another popular show like The Big Bang Theory also effective in de-stressing the people in real life. He further adds that observing comedy shows in which the characters are going through relatable issues guide and encourage people in solving their personal crisis in a better way.

The experience and the reason:

Watching friends is going through an experience of repair. When you observe the characters in the show are going through worries and get repaired and sorted every time, you tend to develop the positive vibes in your mind which help in soothing your real-life problems. The essence of this show is the depiction and settlement of complex problems in such a way that it can motivate the viewer’s to develop a sense of positivity with the endless laughter and joy. And this is pure escapism.

The main reason why this show is good for the brain is– the continuous watching of this show can easily develop a feeling of optimism and whenever we experience feelings of anxiety and stress, the positivity in the brain solves all the problems with comforting feelings. The psychologists also said, “Yes, it is soothing to see the same outcome every time and know you can depend on it. This is at the heart of human development. So, when grown-ups are anxious, they can have child-like feelings of fear and worry, and these can be soothed by repetition.”
