In Ayurveda, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are considered as the major doshas that help in regulating the process of the overall body. Ayurvedic intelligence embraces that symmetry or sense of balance of these three doshas is enormously imperative.

Out of the three, Kapha is extremely important for the body and balancing the element of this dosha oversees the building of the overall body. It is that crucial element of the body that holds the formation of cells and the muscle, fat, bone, and sinew in the body. The very elementary and chief function of Kapha is protection.

Those who have an intramural of Kapha have a tough and resilient build with outstanding stamina. The Kapha characteristics also include large and soft eyes, smooth and radiant skin, with dense and thick hair. Kaphas have great regular digestion and they often sleep very intensely and deeply. When the elements of Kapha go out of balance the kaphas become extremely overweight, sleep excessively, and can also develop various problems like asthma, diabetes, and depression.

How to Balance Kapha

The key factor to maintain Kapha is by seeking stimulation. As Kaphas are generally cold, heavy, and dense by nature so their dosha can only be maintained by stimulation. Below are some ways by which you can balance this dosha.

  • A well-organized regular daily routine which includes waking up before 6 a.m. and avoiding taking naps in between the day.
  • Stay warm and avoid dampness.
  • Try to incorporate dry massages on your body.
  • Organise and clear up your space to avoid any clutters in life.
  • Indulge in some regular exercises. Add running, bicycling, swimming and aerobics in your daily schedule.
  • Add warm and stimulating aromas like cloves, camphor, cinnamon, eucalyptus and juniper in your regular lifestyle.
  • Add warm and bright colours like yellow, orange, and red in your daily routine.

Nutritional Guidelines for Kapha

Eating foods with pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes are extremely beneficial for balancing Kapha. Kaphas should avoid foods with sweet, sour, and salty tastes.

  • Always try a soothing liquid every week.
  • Kaphas should reduce the intake of dairy.
  • A lot of sweeteners should be avoided if you are a Kapha.
  • Drinking hot ginger tea for better digestion is a must.
  • Try to consume lighter fruits like apples, pears, pomegranates, cranberries, and apricots.
  • Reducing nuts and seeds is considered as great for Kaphas.
