This lip-smacking bengali dish is rich in good quality protein and fibre. Thus, works best for diabetics, for those who want to lose weight,and heart patients. This can be had as a snack with tea in the evening. Let’s see its preparation.
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups finely chopped fenugreek(methi) leaves
- 1 cup soaked & boiled dried white peas
- 1 tsp oil
- ½ tsp cumin seeds(jeera)
- 1 bayleaf(tejpatta)
- ½ cup finely chopped onions
- ¼ tsp grated ginger
- ¼ tsp grated garlic
- ½ cup finely chopped tomatoes
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- ½ tsp cumin seeds powder
- ½ tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves (dhania)
Method:
- Soak white peas in enough water for 8 hours.
- Drain well, add 2 ½ cups of water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
- Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan. To this add the cumin seeds & bayleaf and saute on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
- Add the onions,ginger and garlic and saute on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the fenugreek leaves and saute them on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes,turmeric powder,chilli powder,garam masala salt and 2 tbsp water,mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes while stirring continuously.
- Add the boiled white peas along with the water with which they were cooked ,mix well and cook on a medium flame for 8-10 minutes.
- Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve hot.
