Shout-Out to the Much-Awaited NBA’s Debut in India

While America’s famous professional league National Basketball Association (NBA) made a debut in India, PM Modi is hoping that more youngsters will pursue this game. The basketball league made its eagerly awaited entry in India on Friday with Indiana Pacers edging past Sacramento Kings 132-131 in a thrilling contest in Mumbai.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in a conversation with a leading daily stated- “These games are generating a lot of marketing interest and social media activity around it. Even in the last few days, I have had a few interesting conversations with developers about arena infrastructure. It is inevitable that the arenas will be built in major cities in India.

On Saturday, PM hailed the first-ever NBA match in India as a historic moment for India-US relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter that it will help build India-USA ties. He wrote, “Basketball is very popular among our youth. The @NBA matches set the stage, or rather set the court for greater linkages in sports. I hope more youngsters pursue basketball and also contribute to the Fit India Movement.” Union minister Kiren Rijiju called it a “beginning of a sports movement in India”. Students who watched it live claimed that it was exhilarating to see the players and everything that is there in an NBA game.
