Anorexia nervosa often termed Anorexia, is an eating disorder characterised by abnormal low body weight worsened by a psychological fear
of gaining weight. To pillar the distorted concept of weight gain, people with anorexia severely restrict their food intake leading to malnourishment and poor functioning of the body. And when your knot with anorexia goes unabated, it may acquire a life-threatening angle as well.
Often, BMI (Body Mass Index) calculations- is the tool that is used to evaluate the appropriateness of body weight. But observations about eating patterns, exercise and personality traits may hint about Anorexia.

Are you affected by anorexia? (Anorexia symptoms)

Restricting food intake chronically or dieting beyond the norms, relative to the requirements in the context of age, sex and development trajectory shapes some of the primary symptoms. Engaging in eating patterns were cutting food into tiny pieces, eating alone, and/or hiding food are marking their way, then you may be affected by an unreasoned fear of gaining weight.
Depression or lethargy reported the sensation of feeling cold (categorically in extremities) and loss or thinning of hair could be a sign, because the body is deprived of many vital nutrients which compromises immunity, growth and leads to electrolyte imbalance. If you are on dieting and Amenorrhea (an abnormal absence of menstruation, or loss of 3 consecutive menstrual cycles) is growing common occupant of your worries, then you need to check out your nutritional intake.

In purge type of Anorexia, you may feel to purge after eating some food which may indicate something wrong in your gut. Sometimes there are few stomach diseases which make some food to cause pain or upset it entirely but they are nutritionally vital.

When to see a doctor?

Though anorexia nervosa is a self-driven evil which can be taken care well at home if you find that some or all of the above symptoms persist even after some dietary modifications at home then visiting a doctor is imperative.

Dieting V/S Anorexia
There is a clear-cut difference between dieting and anorexia nervosa. Dieting is to keep the shape and size of the body within a well-defined measurement by regulating the food in your diets such that you lose excess weight without compromising the nutritional requirements. But an obsession with dieting marks the beginning of the problem. Sometimes dieting goes beyond the line which demarcates the zone of anorexia. In anorexia, you force yourself too strictly over a wide range of food items which will cost severe nutritional cut on your body. To keep dieting and stay away from anorexia, a nutritionist can be your best guide.

Food is the fuel our body requires to keep itself on the run; heavy cuts on this fuel may dismantle our body’s nutritional requirements and lead to various unwanted effects which we never aimed for. Self-induced starvation to an extent that it grows life threatening is not recommended.

      It can be difficult to recover from this eating disorder without taking someone’s help. For the right treatment, a support network is an important thing to seek out to help you in your recovery. So the first thing is to start talking to someone you can trust – it might be a member of your family, a friend, or your colleague, but most importantly it should be someone you feel comfortable with. These eating disorders are isolating illnesses, so having a support network around you helps to find a way through the loneliness it can cause.

2 small beets

Few sprigs of thyme

1 teaspoon olive oil

1 teaspoon lemon zest

Salt- as per taste

Calorie = 112 kcal
Protein = 2.8 grams
Carbohydrates = 14.8 grams
Fat = 4.7 grams

Course- Evening Snack


Cut beets into thin slices

Put them in a saucepan, with some water. Boil until tender

Next, light your charcoal or barbecue fire

Take a large piece of foil and lay the beets in them. Brush a little olive oil and top with thyme and lemon zest.

Fold the foil and twist the ends together. Punch small holes in the foil with the help of a knife or fork.

Leave it to cook for 15-20 minutes.

Once cooked, allow it to cool and then discard the charred skin.

Toss with salt and pepper, and serve.
